BEHIND THE LATEST ORIGINALS

floral abstraction fun

The transition from Spring to Summer blooms found me adding to the petals collection in more ways than one. The new additions “in the round” include a continuation of the mandala-inspired botanical representations as well as complimentary color explorations in simplified rounded petal marks that eventually take on a larger flower-like shape. They work well individually or as a pair.

There are also a few grid-form pieces that deconstruct the elements of the flower’s petals, leaves, stamen, etc.

Every Saturday morning, I’m lucky enough to walk down to my local coffee shop where Maia (aka “The Flower Press”) has her weekly flower pop-up. She brings the most amazing seasonal blooms and branches all sourced from local organic Bay Area farms. It’s like being a kid in a candy store. It has easily become my favorite way to start the weekend, putting together the week’s haul into arrangements to brighten the days ahead and to become subjects of my work.

The new originals available range in sizes from 8x10 to 9x12. They can be found under the “petals” collection in the shop.

earth’s tones

Introducing pebbles & stones: the latest collection addition to the shop. Both square and circular grid forms of these watercolor and pencil works on paper draw from the colors found in my favorite crystals and minerals. The colors and pigments that the earth produces naturally often puts me in a state of awe. So these color studies have been a lovely detour into different textures and tones from my botanical works. Mixing custom colors and playing with the granulation to mimic the stones makes each mark of color and adventure for me. Keep an eye on this collection for more to come in fall.

Thank you, as always, for taking the time to learn more about this work and my muses. I’d love to hear from you, so feel free to use the contact form or find me on the socials (instagram, mostly, at the moment, for me). Let me know what you’d like to see/know more about!

And my favorite season is just around the corner… I have some fun things in the works, so keep an eye out. Some new products I’ll be testing out here, interviews with some of my favorite makers and businesswomen, as well as some collaborations and pop-up events percolating.

That’s all for now, loves!

Love, L.
